From impressionist textures to large-scale paintings, Klaypel returned to Manila FAME 2026 with a renewed creative identity and a deeper exploration of what paper clay can become.

Manila FAME has always been a celebration of Filipino creativity, craftsmanship, and design. Surrounded by some of the country's most inventive makers and artists, Klaypel joined this year's exhibition with a simple intention: to push the boundaries of our material and invite people to see paper clay in a different light.

Beyond the Kit: Exploring Klaypel as an Artistic Medium

While Klaypel has long been known for its colorful DIY art kits, this year's exhibition placed greater emphasis on the material itself—its versatility, texture, and expressive possibilities.

Under the theme Paper Impressions, our booth featured hanging sheets of impressionist-inspired Klaypel artworks. Rich in texture, movement, and color, these pieces explored how paper clay could capture the gestural qualities of paint while retaining its own distinct, sculptural character.

We also experimented with different artistic techniques, from layered applications and textured surfaces to more expressive compositions. Each piece demonstrated that Klaypel is not limited to filling predetermined designs. It is a material that can be manipulated, interpreted, and transformed through the artist's own imagination.

Of course, our classic DIY Klaypel kits remained part of the experience, reminding visitors that creativity can be just as meaningful in its simplest and most accessible forms.

Two Paintings, Two Stories to Tell

Among the highlights of our exhibition were two Klaypel paintings, each measuring 3 × 4 feet. These works explored the material's potential beyond its familiar small-format applications, allowing it to carry larger compositions and more personal narratives.

Dalagang Pilipina by Jela Morales

A contemporary interpretation of the Filipina, Dalagang Pilipina features a woman dressed in a pink Maria Clara top, rendered through cubist-inspired forms, rough edges, and pronounced textures.

Despite its fragmented composition, the painting retains a sense of softness, modesty, and elegance—qualities traditionally associated with the Filipina. There is something fitting about this portrait being created through Klaypel, itself a Filipina's invention.

A Story of Hope by Horhe Corong

A Story of Hope reflects a journey close to Klaypel's own beginnings.

What started as humble experiments with a simple, everyday material—paper—eventually grew into something far greater than originally imagined. The painting captures this spirit of possibility, tracing an upward journey from modest beginnings toward the clouds, where imagination and ambition seem limitless.

It is a story that extends beyond Klaypel. For anyone who has ever started small, pursued an unlikely idea, or wondered how far a dream could go, the work offers a familiar reminder: even the simplest beginnings can lead somewhere extraordinary.

Together, these paintings reflected our growing interest in positioning Klaypel not merely as a craft material, but as a medium for contemporary artistic expression.

The Zebra Comes to Life

When we introduced the Klaypel zebra at Manila FAME in 2024, it was still an emerging identity. The concept had been launched, but its visual language and creative direction were still taking shape.

Two years later, we returned having fully embraced the zebra.

Representing individuality, resilience, and the courage to stand out, the zebra now finds its place across our branding, artworks, and exhibition experience. Its distinctive character reflects what we hope to encourage through Klaypel: the freedom to create differently and the confidence to express one's own identity.

This year's booth was therefore more than a presentation of new artworks. It was also a reflection of how far we have come in defining who we are and what we stand for.

Inspired by Filipino Creativity

Beyond our own exhibition, what made Manila FAME particularly meaningful was the atmosphere of creativity that filled the entire event.

Being surrounded by such creativity reminded us that innovation does not always mean inventing something entirely new. Sometimes, it means recognizing the possibilities within what we already have and finding new ways to tell our stories through them.

From humble experiments with paper to large-scale works of art, our journey continues to be one of experimentation, imagination, and possibility.

And perhaps that is the beauty of creativity: there is always more to discover, more to make, and more to become.
